Thanks very much to NPR’s It’s Been a Minute podcast for welcoming Dr. Allegra Broft, a psychiatrist in our group at the Eating Disorders Center for Research & Treatment, to talk about the emerging complicated relationship between the new world of weight loss medications (GLP-1s) and eating disorders.
Host Brittany Luse interviewed Dr. Broft alongside Hannah Seo, a journalist who has written about GLP-1s and eating disorders for The Guardian. Together, they discuss the risk that weight loss medications can hold for people who have or are vulnerable to eating disorders. And what it means when these medicines become readily available in a culture that over-idealizes thinness.
